HAWKINSVILLE, Ga. — The Hawkinsville-Pulaski County Recreation Department will celebrate the opening of its newly constructed pickleball courts with a public event Thursday, April 30, beginning at 5:15 p.m. at 153 Lower River Road.
The courts occupy a space on the park grounds that had sat vacant since the closure of the facility’s former mini golf course, bringing new life to a long-dormant corner of the property.
Kenny White, who has served as director of the park for 30 years, said plans are already in the works to install lighting at the courts, which would allow residents to play after dark. White is set to retire from the position, with Cal Young named as his successor.
Young, who will take over day-to-day operations following White’s departure, is expected to pursue the establishment of organized pickleball leagues at the facility.
The event on Thursday is being hosted in partnership with the Hawkinsville-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce.
